     It is so easy to look at the world and only see the negative things that are all around. Although I believe that being informed about problems in the world is important, if that is my only message to the people around me then I am doing little to inspire or motivate them. The challenge is to look beyond that and also see the beauty that exist- the reason that I want to save the world in the first place.
      Each day I focus on finding the extraordinary in all things. I believe in working to find hope and beauty in the dark places that we don't want to look. I think that this helpls to empower people to make changes in their lives rather than turn away because they don't think they can do any good. Figuring out how to actually make a change in my own life was a difficult lesson to learn.
     For most of my life I followed a pretty standard path. I worked in a job that paid well, but was slowly consuming me. Over the years I had slowly been acquiring things that I realized I didn't even need. And I had a nagging feeling that I had somehow missed something.
     Then finally I looked around and asked myself what I really needed to live, and what would it take for me to be truly happy. From that point on I began making decisions that led me in a new direction that has allowed me to be happy with my life. I decided to go back to school, and now at this unlikely point in my life, I am pursuing my graduate degree. I don't know that I am any closer to answers, but now I am able to ask the questions that I want and to decide where to put my energy.
